Skincare is something that you need to think about throughout your entire life. When you are in your teens your main concern will be controlling oil and keeping your skin clean. However, as you age your skincare concerns change. By the time you are in your 40s your skincare routine will focus around adding moisture and nourishment to your skin to keep it looking young. You can make your skin stay looking younger longer by starting a proactive, anti-aging skincare routine early in your life.
1 – Expand Your Teen Year’s Skincare Routine
When you are a teenager your skincare routine probably included things like washing your face, using an astringent, using acne control products and spot treatments, and using a sun screen. As you enter your 20s you need to expand this skincare routine to include using a moisturizer every day, using a non-soap cleanser, and using an exfoliation treatment up to 3 times a week. The goal of skincare during your twenties is to prevent premature aging of your skin, and to establish a good skincare routine that you can continue throughout the rest of your life.
2 – The Sun is the Enemy
Most people in their 20s lead active lifestyles. Because they are spending so much time out in the sun it is important that they use a sunscreen with an SPF of at least 30. They should also consider wearing sun hats and sunglasses to protect their skin from direct exposure to the sun. Staying in the shade is another great strategy to protect skin from sun damage. Protecting your skin from the sun is important because the sun is what ages your skin. The more sun exposure your skin has during your 20s the older your skin is going to look when you are in your 30s, 40s, and 50s.
3 – Don’t Smoke
When you are in your 20s you think that nothing bad will every happen to you, and because of this many twenty-somethings smoke. Smoking is very bad for your skin. It turns it gray, it creates wrinkles, and it causes many other signs of aging. If you want your skin to remain looking young you need to stop smoking right now.
4 – Treat Yourself More Often to a Facial
During your 20s your skin’s ability to regenerate cells decreases by about 28 percent. This means that your skin is going to look duller than it did during your teen years. To help brighten your skin and preserve that youthful glow you should enjoy frequent facials and exfoliation treatments. You may also want to use a sunless tanner or bronzing powder to your beauty routine.
5 – Keep Your Body Healthy
During your 20s the pace of your life picks up. You have to deal with college, starting a career, and possibly even starting a family. Because of all of these challenges you may think that you don’t have enough time to spend fussing with your skin. If this is the case then you can improve the look and health of your skin simply by staying active and healthy. Provide your body with a healthy diet and enough exercise to keep your body’s fat content down and muscle content up, and your skin will naturally look healthy and radiant.
