The Biodiversity Library on Flickr is an excellent source for lovers of Botanical prints. Out of the numerous things you can use them for, here is how to create your own DIY Botanical Design T Shirt.
DIY T-Shirt Printing
Here’s what you will need:
– a dark-colored cotton T-shirt (or a sweatshirt as it’s getting really cold right now)
– dark textile transfer paper
– a classic inkjet printer
– scissors, an x-acto and an iron
How to:
1. Choose your board from the Biodiversity Heritage Library website or download the camellia used here.
2. Open your document in Photoshop and fill the background in black with the paint bucket tool, being careful to fill everything without “staining” the drawing (zoom in for the filling to be done correctly). This step is not mandatory, but it makes it easier to cut by avoiding clear spots around the pattern.
3. Print your board on a sheet of transfer paper.
4. Carefully cut out your pattern with scissors and x-acto.
5. Follow the instructions on the transfer paper to apply the pattern using the supplied parchment paper and your iron.
6. Flaunt your creation!
