A cute little craft that kids can make as handmade gift ideas for Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. These paper cactii look pretty enough for any desk.
To make paper plants, you will need:
Heavy card stock
colorful or fancy paper
pencil
paint
scissors
jars
glue
soil / pebbles
The tutorial:
Difficulty: 1/5
Timing: 20 min per plant max!
How to:
Plants : Start by drawing the silhouettes of the plants or foliage on your card stock. Let your imagination run free, anything is possible. Cut them out, and paint each part, on the front and then on the back. If you don’t have green paint, mix yellow + blue, this will also allow you to get a different color for each of your small plants, for more realism. When the paint is dry, decorate the plants with a white Posca pencil. You can now proceed to the assembly of your plant (if you opt for a cross system as I did for the cactus for example).
Jars : collect glass jars, clean them and remove their labels. Fill them with dirt and collect some pebbles that you set aside. Then cut strips of paper to create labels, and glue them around the edge of each of the jars neatly. After that, you can add a small rectangle cut from a different paper on which you will have written the name of your plant in felt-tip pen, or, why not, a mantra that will motivate you to work hard;).
Planting : to finish, plant your paper plants in the earth and arrange your small pebbles around to secure them.
So easy isn’t it? If you have children at home, you can even ask them to make you a little paper cactus.
